Re: Ariel Square 4 had same problem with oil as B25 (Non Detergent oil)

Here is a tip on cleaning out the crud. I have two parts washers, my smaller bench top on get used the most. Long time ago you could get decent solvent for these that worked great, like the old Stoddard Solvent. but most of that stuff was not good for the environment and is long gone. Any one here o...

Interesting experiment and hats off for going to all that trouble. Arguably though, the ‘control’ would be to repeat the procedure with a non-detergent oil and compare the outcomes? Very good point. Everyone that I know uses Detergent oil in their bikes any more, Many use diesel due to it being ava...

Re: Ariel Square 4 had same problem with oil as B25 (Non Detergent oil)

I am just sitting here enjoying a cup of coffee and I picked the jar up to look at it. It has been sitting all night on the floor by the table. The sun is shinning and I held the jar up to the sun light. Please note how much more crude has come off the mesh "oil Filters" and is now on the bottom of ...

Re: Ariel Square 4 had same problem with oil as B25 (Non Detergent oil)

Just to recap this simple little experiment. Just clean oil and two dirty mesh filters. The oil loaded up and suspended the 'dirt', the only place that this could come from is off the parts. The oil is not circulating in a engine, it is just setting in a jar with parts that have sludge on them. So i...

Results The camera's flash is making this look green, it looks more like a dark coffee. Notice the stuff at the bottom of the jar already. These photos are in a well lit kitchen you can no longer see the fittings in the jar without a strong light. This is just done with dirty parts ( Sludge) placed ...

Another factor is if it was last used with non-detergent oil which left a lot of sludge here-and-there inside the surfaces of the engine. If this is the case, and you introduce detergent oil to the engine, all of this "stuff" left from years of combustion, etc. gets cleaned off by the detergent and...

Modern oils have huge improvements to them compared to oils just 20 years ago. A modern motor rebuilt to the tolerances that we used back in the 1970's let alone in the 1960's would be considered on the edge of being worn out now. The modern oils also clean a lot better then the old oils. I can pull...
