Re: Acquired B50SS in NH

Okay, I need some help getting my baby fired up. Bike is together and ignition is working fine. I set timing (non-running) to 34 BTDC and am trying to fire it up. It is getting gas and I have tried the starting fluid route. I have the decompressor lever set so I can relieve compression and all seems...

Re: Acquired B50SS in NH

Made some progress on my project. Stripped frame and repainted everything, new grease, new bearings, a few misc pieces here and there. Engine bored to next size, new piston, rings. I kept the stock connecting rod and I know, I should have upgraded. New valves, guides and cleaned up seats. Fixed shif...

B50 Piston - 020, 030 over

Anyone got a decent B50 piston (.020 or .030 over) for a better price than a $200 new one? I have a .060 over in great shape also if anyone is interested in swapping or needs one.

Re: B50 exhaust

I was the one who ended up with the piston, rings, etc. in this thread (thanks Rookster) and my machine shop is telling me it is a .060 over and my cylinder is standard so that's a lot of material to remove. I would love to get a decent .020 or .030 over piston if anyone wants to trade me? The 060 i...

License Plate Brackets B50SS

Looking for the license plate brackets below the tail light for a 1971 B50SS. There is one set on Evil Bay but I thought I'd check here too.

Re: Shifting into third issues

Well it looks like it was a different problem and I'm glad I opened up the case. The bike had sat for some time with little oil in it I guess and the cam plate was rusted up a bit to the point where I was not able to push the shift lever enough to make it advance into the next gear. The spring and e...

Re: Shifting into third issues

I tried to adjust that bolt mentioned and it certainly made a positive impact and now goes into first, neutral, second and third but fourth does not seem to be happening. I assume this should go in with a little rocking of the chain sprocket, right? One more try tonight then I guess I am going into ...

Shifting into third issues

I have a 71 B50SS that I need to re-ring and while doing so, need to see what is going on with the shifting. It goes into first, neutral and second but cannot be put into third, at least while not running even with some rocking of the sprocket. I suspect there is an issue in the gear box and I am a ...

Re: Rear Pedal Brake Switch and Pivot

I can't find a source for the pedal brake switch and bracket and I did try the BSA Unit Singles website but could not find it. Anyone got a source?

Rear Pedal Brake Switch and Pivot

I could use a photo of the pivot area of someone's bike showing what the brake switch and return spring (if there are any) looks like on a 71 B50SS. I believe I am missing some parts and want to set this up correctly. I have the return spring on the hub, the brake rod to the pedal with cotter washer...

B50SS Side Kickstand to USA

I am in need of a side kickstand for my project (71 B50SS). Before I prep the frame I need to repair the mount and need a side kickstand to use to set it up. I am in New Hampshire, USA so please keep that in mind.

Acquired B50SS in NH

Just picked this up a few weeks ago. Not a barn find but a shed find. Mostly there and the critical stuff is in good shape like the tank, seat, and matching numbers motor. Wiring is a disaster and has a blown head gasket for starters. Tearing it down and bringing it back to life over thise cold New ...
