Is that any worse than being a passenger on a conventional two-wheeler (if that's possible)?

Re: Eco mania
that`s from the Swiss company "Peraves",who goes bankrupt last year.In the nineties this vehicle had a BMW motorcycle engine and at last an electric motor.Max.speed on both versions over 150 mph.Google after "Peraves,Monotracer or Ecomobil".

Re: Eco mania
As for a write-up, I was just taken for a spin round the block. Having had an ff of my own, I thought the roiling handling was similar, the weird thing about this Eco was the undercarriage and the transition between a double sided sidecar and a lean-steer mono-track vehicle.
Inside it is as quiet as a car, foot clutch and hand gear change on the left, bike controls on the right. 1st gear is modded to be a reverse. As with most rear engined ff, it is long, but not too long. I do always wonder if ridden in town , how many cyclists and pedestrians you might get with the out riggers.

Re: Eco mania
ok, the story:
we use to have two cars, one for me to go to work and one for my wife to go to work.
the small one , a Smart I use it, the "bigger", the family car ,a Mercedes A 140 is used by my Hannelore.
the Merc we had to replace now because it was very rusty by 14 years old and 45 000 Km's only !
by counting the costs of repairing just the front brake system ( disc brakes ), I cam to the result as we where spending more monay for repairing then for fuel in this 14 years time
so I was looking for something else but NOT Mercedes !
my dream was a Electric Car, because IMO the time for the piston engine is over, I say, this new DC motors used in modern cars are 10 time better than the fuel / diesel burners.
outgoing from the fallowing facts of main energy consumption in our ( average ) swiss family wich are :
1 Transport 15 000 KWh / year
2. Heating 12 000 KWh / year
3. Hotwater 4 500 KWh / year
4. Electricity 3 800 KWh / year
this is here in Switzerland, - it may be different in the US ore as well different in Africa.
at my home, the really numbers are as fallow:
1. 10 000KWh / year
2. 12 000 KWh / year, - made by Wood = renewable Energy.
3. 4 500 KWh / year, - made by solar panels and Wood = renewable energy.
4. 2 600 KWh / year, - made by 3 800 KWh solar/ photovoltaik cells.
so a leftover of about 1 000 KWh / year is the result.
this means, as a car like the BMW i3+ with a consumption of around 15 KWh / 100 Kms is making 6500 Kms with this leftover power from the houseroof.
now, in our family, we do have a decision about investments in one of this 4 points.
- by new investments they are really sustainable, the costs can be up to 1/3 higher than the common system. -
this is the way it cames to such a thing: we got it second hand from a big service station, 8500 Kms on the counter already but - I like it!
this is why it has a battery AND a fuel engine ( by 600 ccm from a BMW scooter ) for a total range of around 300 Kms.

Re: Eco mania
You may have holes in your cheese, bu I can't pick holes in your logic!
Electric vehicles may work in a country full of cheap hydro power, where the mountain air is so thin it lets all the suns energy through, but the energy used in putting all those nasty chemicals in a new car is far more than it will ever consume in its lifetime. It may make economic sense, but to be really green you need to stop making new stuff that cannot be repaired and keep the old stuff going.....when your battery wears out, you can't take it to a mate and have it machined, it will end up being flung in a ditch, but as the ditch will be in the far east, who cares? In this country, innefficient power generation, transmission losses and the high cost of anything owned by a big corporation means that in my lifetime I'm going to burn a bit more fossil fuel yet.
(Rant rant....)

Thanks Beat Well worked out. In a big country like ours we would need a big battery but they are improving as time goes on.

my loved color isn't really green, it is actually blueminetymenace wrote:to be really green you need to stop making new stuff that cannot be repaired and keep the old stuff going....

and yes, keeping old stuff going says something to me......
but, but, but, - some small years ago, they moved everithing on sledges,( lubricating the skid with catrol R ) - until they find out as a WHEEL is doing a better job

so they NOT repaired the sledges anymore,.. lucky !

shure, evan today I do move sometime on a sledge ( mostly in Wintertime ) and to work on my B50 I say is mostly a " archeological " work then something else

but a new car is something different, I was looking for something " up to date " so to say, not for something where the main system of it is actualy belonging to the Museum

Imagine the aftermarket re-programming kits that will be marketed- unicycle mode (front or rear wheel), hobby-horse mode for parades, etc...

using the vehicule for everything, means going to work same as holliday trips.
it is very comfortable, powerful and with handy futures.
plus : 10 000 km done by additional 74.5 liters of fuel ( makes 0.75 L / 100 km av. )
: averidge 16.8 KWh consumption of electric power for 100 km. ( äqu.of 2 L fuel, passing sommer and winter now )
: all the el pow is coming from the house roof, means left over next to the house consumption.
minus : it just comes back from one week in the service department, got new el. engine fixation and a complete new battery set.
( no costs for us, all vent on warranty )
: by cold wetter ( say 0°C ore lower ) the battery lasts for 100 Km only cause of the consumption of the heating system. ( without heating around 180 km )
the fuel generator ( scooter engine ) works well and lasts for a speed of 120 kmh max.
over all, : I WOULD NOT GO BACK TO SOMETHING ELSE!
