Mountaineering in the Le Touque Sand Dunes

It is hard to describe how very mental this is.
(See here for the French version of the highlights).
Despite the our flag being hoisted on the smallest mast and up-side down, Brits managed 26th and 32nd.
There were over 400,000 spectators watching the final race which had 1100 riders!
The best viewing points were only accessible to a few with mountaineering skills, but this is the first time I have been ordered off a climb by a guy in a funny hat and a gun (it did say (in French) it was not permitted, but being British I didn't think it applied to me).
The wall I scaled was far more scary but as it had no signs, I assume the gendarmery applied the Darwin principle.
Only one BSA, an M20.
Cross between Weston-Super-Mere on steroids and Henley-On-Thames (OK only Brits will understand that).
Bit of a hoot though!
There is no evidence to support the notion that life is serious.

Today Le Touquet is not the same races as a couple of years before when you went down the beach for several miles, passed the legendary funnel "Le Goulet" and then back through the dunes. The lap was way longer than today.

After competing there a couple of times with my Rotax-CCM i rode there with my 76 CCM in 2002 or 2003 - which was absolutely mad by the way.
Well i was not the fastest down the beach but the crowd went ballistic ccmicon :ban
Managed one lap, on the way back through the dunes i had extreme plinking and shortly before the pits the engine died with a nice hole in the piston
There must be a pic from that race anywhere i will search.
