I noticed that the location map has no B50MX near Washington, DC. The B50MX I gave my grandson is in Southern Maryland, about 40 miles south of Washington, DC. I bought it as a basket case in 1974 and then it sat indoors until 1994 and then in storage until 2001. From 2001 until just recently, it sat in the rain. Now, we are working on restoring it. I'll let my grandson register it with you but in case you just want to know, it is B50MX JG00248 (numbers match). The reason it was a basket case is that the kid who owned it took the muffler off and annoyed the neighborhood until the people got together and destroyed it one night with hammers! Fortunately, the only engine damage was some cylinder fins and the primary cover. They destroyed the tank, fenders, lights, but didn’t touch the wheels or frame. His father sold it t me for $50 just ot get it out of his house.
Please get the chip of the old block to start a thread in Project Bikes. I thought vigilantism was a trait of the Wild West, not the East Coast in the 70's. I trust the rule of law now persists.
Unashamed bump....its now Spring 2013 (in the northern hemisphere anyway) and a number of new members have joined with projects in various states of completion...
I'm new to the B50.org forum. I just inherited a 1971 B50SS from my grandfather who passed away two years ago. His name was Jack and he had the bike for as long as i can remember.
It looks like it's in great condition, but I need to give it a good inspection before i try to start it up. I've been flying through How to Restore Your Motorcycle - Mark Zimmerman, and i have the original replacement parts list. My grandfather was a mechanic and meticulous by nature... so i don't expect the road ahead to be too difficult.
I couldn't see any pictures on your link to photobucket, you can post them here, why not start a new topic in Projects or Members?
If you look at the "Spareparts" button at the top of the page, it has all the parts lists you will ever need!! Would you also update your profile and let everyone know roughly where you live please?
Home woke done, look forward to hearing that the heirloom is roadworthy

If you let people know where you are in the world, you might find someone to help you out. For instance, I'm in the northern part of Virginia, USA and I know people who would help in the Southern part of Maryland, USA.

Thanks to both of you for the help! I'm in Ottawa (Canada) these days. The bike was originally located in Porquis Junction, ON (for as long as i can remember).
