WM3 19" Front Rim?

Post by hhh » Tue Feb 05, 2019 7:52 am

I've been given a WM3 19" alloy rim that seems to be in serviceable condition and I plan to lace it to an '69 8" TLS hub for my road going B44. Am I likely to have any issues with clearances or tire choice? I tried searching on this but the silly search engine ignores "WM3."

I think it will depend entirely on tyre choice. Road tyres? If so select your tyre and look up the manufacturers sizes to see how big it is when fitted. With a WM3 on the front you might find the steering is a bit slower

I have a WM2 on my B44VS with a chunky trials tyre and no issues there at all

Just found this on TheVincent.com site:

"the current Avon handbook recommends using wider wheel rims for their range of tyres, e.g.a 100 x 90 H19 requires a WM3 rim. this tyre fitted to a WM2 rim looks very "pinched" on this narrow rim. The sidewalls slope steeply inwards whereas on a WM 3 rim the tyre looks completely at home."

This surprised me. I never would've expected the WM3 to be preferred for a 100/90 and I've likely violated this recommendation many times.
