Hub Powdercoat???s

Post by johnu »

Ok so looking to do something with the hubs for my mx project. I'm going to use Excel rims and would like to have either black or gold hubs. I've never powdercoated hubs before, does it affect the spoke fit in the hub? Would it be better to just spray paint them?

You have to mask off or grind away the coating on the spoke holes . Powder coating can and will chip.

Powdercoating works better on cast iron hubs, I never use it on alloy hubs.

Why not polish the hub to a high gloss, like the factory did in 1973?

Gloss or Satin black Trimite paint (expensive). I have it on most of my hubs. Does not chip or scratch. Stays put forever. It's fairly thin too, so won't affect the spoke holes. I have done a few engines with it as well. It is very heat proof and the muck and dirt just seems to fall off it when washed.

Ok thanks, I'll have to see if it's available here in the States!

Thanks but I don't like the polished alloy look for the hubs. The hubs are polished as they sit now.

Have them Cerakoted.

It's insanely tough and doesn't build up as much as powder does.

You may want to fit the spokes first and see if you need to chase that hole a touch first. That way you wont have to drill your new coating.

Check a local gun shop that also does blueing. You want a shop that works on guns and not just one that sells them.

The firearms company was liquidated in 1986, Gamo bought out the air rifle business and continue to sell the range using the BSA name. BSA Regal Group are still going (See Ripe Motorcycles above). The hey-day of motorcycle production is over though. This is getting off topic now.....
