B40 triple clamp material

Post by Momus »

B40 Star- 1964 model I think.

Did these come from the factory with steel, iron or aluminium lower triple clamps?

Thanks.
If you love it, lube it.

Almost certain it would be a steel forging.

Thanks gents.
Mine has an aluminium unit with a steel stem and forks that look similar to the B50.was there an ally clamp fitted to any BSA models prior to B50 say Victor?
If you love it, lube it.

All '71 and later OIF bikes had Aluminium fork yokes.

No cracks in mine! Think this is either rumour caused by cheap replicas or historic front end damage, a bit like the headlamp wires cracking on OIF singles (he says trying very hard to get this thing back on topic, but then realising that the title of the topic includes "triple clamps"!!)...

Well to keep it on / off topic.
THe A65L did around 150,000 miles without any problems from the wire mounted headlight.
The B 50 T used to eat a set every year or so .
