b44icon I believe I"ve read of someone having a crack around the threaded boss caused by vibration fatigue.
Might be worth checking.
Good luck,
Rob

You prolly know there is a sleeve that sets the bottom bolt length properly for the tank... I have been the victim of DPO's lack of attention to that, sounds like you may be also. That mounting bolt shouldn't penetrate the tank, wrong length bolt or sleeve can result in leakage.

thanks gents for the replies , there is no sleeve on my bike , the part is 40-8401 (rubber sleeve) and the bolt is listed as 5/16 unf x 1 3/4 , would anyone have a length of this sleeve please ? i have bolts already !
i assume the bolt goes through the frame , rubber, into oil tank , reason i ask is that my set up is a bolt that goes through the frame (split) with a rubber grommet nut and washer to clamp the bolt to the grommet then a locknut unto the tank .ill upload a photo.... sorry its uploaded on an angle !

i would assume plenty of ptfe tape around the bolt to seal into the tank .
