Nut

Post by Keith » Sat Feb 14, 2015 10:48 am

Hi,

Anyone know where I can get a correct alternator rotor crankshaft nut from for a 1966 B44. From my measurements it seems like it is 5/8 x 20tpi cycle thread, is that correct.

I've just received one that was supposed to fit but doesn't. It looks like unf thread.

Could do with one asap.

I've tried ringing CCM/PES several times over the last week and never got an answer, same with emails. (Maybe I've just been unlucky but this appears to be the norm as the same thing happened last time I wanted something).

All help appreciated,

Keith.

Mark,

I did leave a message on the answer machine on either Wednesday or Thursday. I didn't see any point in leaving any more.

Apologies re. the email though. I've just looked and see it is still in 'drafts'. I must have had a senior moment and forgot to press send.

Keith.

I also need this info for my C15. One resource says 5/8 BSC 20tpi and another says 9/16 BSC 20tpi.

Thread is 5/8" BSCy 20tpi for all except late B50.
Earlier bikes had plain nut (which fits the timing side as well), later had shouldered nut which fits into end of rotor, the rotors varied.
The tab washers also differ, larger ID to suit shouldered nut.
Some pattern plain nuts have wrong thread but otherwise they are easily available.
Hope that helps

there can be confusion on the b50 rotor plain nut, as it is 5/8"x 20 bsc but has the unified circles mark on it! the later b25 has a shouldered nut 1" af as opposed to the b50 at 1 1/8" af.

my point is you cant believe its correct just because the book says so. if we took any notice of the 71 parts book for example, we would be totally lost. come on then you guys, arm yourself with a 5/8" unf nut and see if it screws on the drive side. answers on a post card please!
