WTB B44 VE or VS tank

Post by B44Claus » Thu Sep 08, 2016 2:08 pm

Hi,
I'm looking for an original B44 Victor Enduro or Special alloy gas tank. Anything will be considered as long as it is in serviceable condition.
If nothing surfaces I might be interested in a reproduction tank if it's a faithful copy.

Looking forward to hear form you

Brgds,
Claus

Those tanks are for sale on eBay in the US. Rarely do a few weeks go by where there isn't one up on auction. Forget about buying a faithful reproduction! An original would be less expensive and the real deal.

Thanks Peter,
I have had a look around and tend to agree with you that reproduction tanks just don't look right. Recently I have been checking e-bay but not seen any tanks.
Danish tax will rip you off if you buy from outside EU... :(

Hi Beat,
EU is not to blame, it's the greedy State of Danmark who has brought this problem upon their poor Citizens. Think of a tax and we have it!

Claus,

What is the percent tax from a purchase from another country inside the EU? What is the percent tax for you in Denmark on a similar item bought from outside the EU? In other words how great is the difference? I myself have no idea being from the US. I seem to sell items into the EU but don't know what the hit is at that end. I usually declare a value of about half what the sale really was and thus far I've only heard from a few French and Italian customers that customs sometimes dig open the shipment to see what other valuation paperwork there is to get more revenue.

If you buy from another EU country there is 'only' VAT to pay set at the rate of the sellers country, this is 20% in UK but varies in each country eg 25% in Denmark.
What is the percent tax for you in Denmark on a similar item bought from outside the EU?
If you buy outside of the EU then you have VAT at your own countries rate plus any duty. The VAT are calculated on the total cost including postage, duties on the goods cost only. Duty is typically only 2 to 3% for parts but more for vehicles.

So you are doing a favour under declaring but as the VAT is paid on the freight as well then its not as much as you were hoping.

I buy phones etc from China, they typically declare values of $30 on something costing $250 and a lot of the time you pay no tax at all as it falls under the UK threshold, £16 for goods, £32 for gifts.

Here, NOT a EU country, we pay 8% VAT plus 20 cents by the KG plus a custom handling fee of somewhere 40 buks.
this for goods values of bigger than 65 Sfr. ( 70 $ )

so, something heavy, priced with 75 $ can cost me nearly the double to get it in my hand.

what abouth

It is not hard to get a very good physical condition B44 alloy tank on eBay in the US for $300 or less. Weight would be around 7 lbs with packing, so around $60 in shipping. If I were selling it I'd declare a value of $150 (on a $300 tank). As best I can see the end price with all fees won't be even close to double the tanks cost. Even if the full price is declared and postage is added = $360.00 and then say one gets whacked with 25% VAT (just as an example) you are talking $450 in total. So what does a nice alloy Victor tank go for typically in the EU? And then add the EU VAT. How big is the difference for a part that is hard to find at home and is the difference worth it? All things that need to be considered. On the other hand I can't imagine why someone would buy something like a B40 hub and then have it shipped overseas. You could give away the hub but after shipping and VAT it would still be way too expensive to bother with.

Hi Peter,

I absolutely agree with you that stuff being rare in Europe(incl. UK  ) but more plentiful abroad can be shipped overseas and all included be an attractive purchase anyway.
I certainly would be interested in buying a tank for abt. 300 $.

By the way, I have inquired to a some of the companies who are selling replica B44 tanks and either they are actually the Victor GP type or they don't make a faithful copy where the details are correct.
So I will look out for an original B44 VE/VS tank.

Brgds,
Claus

Hi Claus,
Next year the classic motocross des nations is in randers denmark, so any goodies originating from the UK I would willingly transport FOC :thumb, trouble is its a year away!
I have transported loads of parts to all the classic motocross events this year, 1st event included 4 sets of forks 1 complete engine and a box full off spares
I've become friends with racers from Denmark who I feel sure would help out your end.
We have quite a network of like minded friends all over Europe, one guy even files in from the US to race the series, he's most useful for his translation skills as he's originally from the Czech Republic.
He has close family who sell CZ parts (every nut & bolt) but that's another story.

Good luck with hunting down the VS tank.

Regards
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
Thanks for the generous offer! :thumb
Although I'm not into MX myself I'm following it a bit on the sideline and it's my impression that classic MX has quite a strong following here in Denmark.
A guy in Randers - Carsten Kyhl used to renovate cranks and cylinder heads for me and he and his son were both heavily involved in classic motocross. He did some excellent machine work and was even manufacturing Matchless G80/85 engines from scratch. Perhaps you know him?
Sadly he has closed his shop now and I haven't found a qualified replacement for him yet :(

Anyway, I shall keep your kind proposal in mind and I might revert with a request to bring some stuff over when you travel to MX events in Denmark - thanks again! :thumb

Brgds,
Claus
