Telford Classic Off-Road Show 2016

Post by beesa71 » Mon Feb 22, 2016 5:48 pm

First to report is the meeting of so many Forum members, good friendly banter all round. Thanks guys.

Good show, plenty of Unit Single related items to see, outdoor jumble better than last year (in terms of number of stall holders). Sensible prices on all we were looking at except Bantam engines; £500 for a modest 175 needing a full rebuild! The trials world has gone mad.

From being in as soon as they let us we were pretty much ushered out as they locked up we were very well engrossed in all halls.

'Our' regular providers were there (in sort of alphabetical order), examples being;

JME with some very nice new castings, crankcases, 4 valve heads being examples - pictures below with luck

PES with their pink unmissable stall.

Rod Spry with some lovely NOS CCM items and a great selection of bikes to take notes from. A Forum member from overseas who was in our party was understandably very, very pleased to be taking a NOS petrol tank back home with him - I wonder if we can get an 'export ban' on the basis of it being a historic work of art!

For me, a lover of all things 'ex-works', a real star was the Lampkin trials C15; a perfect example of BSA's 'parts bin' specials, it took time to see all of the little things that must have helped it (and him of course) have an advantage over a production item. like the footrest so neatly tucked in, the top yoke either modified or a real factory special. Just very, very nice. At this machine came across Mike of the GP Victor website 'number spotting' - like train spotting only better! Nice to, briefly, make your acquaintance Mike.

My understanding is that some of Rod Spry's offerings were from the late Tom Beckett. I didn't know before saturday of his passing and I offer condolences to all on here who were his friends.

So, in summary, how was the show on it's second year under Morton's empire? Not as bad as we'd expected I have to admit, no huge stalls with insurance conpany representative's flogging their policies, better outdoor jumble, a few Unit Singles for sale, some new products to tempt us, reasonable volume crowd (we didn't get 'stuck' anywhere on our travels) and easy acceess, parking and egress at the end of the day.

Roll on next year.

Regards to all OIF'ers.

Paul.

yes I agree with that, the jumble better than last year and I did manage to buy some goods. very surprised to see the new b50 crankcases on the JME stand they look good, will be interesting to see how they perform. so to sum up well worth going and good meeting up with fellow enthusiastic folk.

You'd be safe there Stan it's a part of the country that serves proper food.

I wonder if we should be seriously thinking of a B50.org presence rather than an impossible 'meeting up' at an ad' hoc time/place.

It really was pretty good, be made even better with more Unit Singles. An of course, that would include Road Race, Trials, MX, Trail and any other discipline they might be used for.

Paul.

Sorry I forgot to put the B50.org banner up this year. Yes we were shocked to see products in the market place that we are currently working on.

It was nice to chat to those that dropped in, it was a bit more chilled this year. Sadly many traders complained of poor sales.

Thought it was quite a good show this year. Quite a lot of 2nd hand plastic items being carried around thought! -can't think of much plastic on a unit BSA or other proper classics! Lots of B50 based bikes on show or for sale, haven't seen so many CCM's in one spot for a long time. Great to see a guy like Joe Maxwell having a go at manufacturing B50 crankcases, the day is going to come when its going to be difficult to find a decent pair of crankcases and so I wish him every success.

my thoughts also longstroke, that must be some investment to have them manufactured.
